About Linx

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes

2/17/13 Linx is an abuse case that we took in a few weeks ago. He was rescued by his owner's neighbor who had witnessed the owner beating Linx w/ a 2x4 board on many seperate occasions. Linx has also been starved and is in the process of putting on some much needed weight. Due to abuse that he has endured, Linx' tail is broken and there is possibly some nerve damage - he is unable to wag his big, fluffy tail anymore. :( We are also suspicious that he may have damage to his bladder because when he urinates it is not a normal stream and he has dribbled some urine in his crate from time to time. He will be going in the next week or so for some diagnostics to try to determine exactly what his problems are and this listing will be updated accordingly. Despite the neglect and abuse he suffered, Linx loves everyone. This is a testament to his beautiful nature and sweet temperament. Linx has no aggression at all - he gets along well with all the other dogs in his foster home. He is very loving and gentle and would do great in a home with kids. Linx has so much to offer and we hope that the health issues he now has because of the beatings that he endured will not hinder him from being adopted. He is so deserving of a loving home. Linx is heartworm negative and is current on shots, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention. If you are looking for a beautiful German Shepherd, he may the one for you. He appears to be a pure bred and is about 2 yrs old. Linx is located in Ar and will be transported to the northeast once adopted. For more info, email kelley.aasr@gmail.com. UPDATE: Linx had XRays done by my vet on Thursday, 2/28, and this is what we found out:

As suspected, he has damage to the vertebrae at the base of his tail, so his tail is "broken". He has some control of it, but not much. He can't wag it but he can lift it enough to stay clean and not get any poo on it when he goes potty. Because of that damage, he also has nerve damage to his bladder. He can initiate urination but is not able to completely empty out his bladder, so he sometimes has "overflow" due to this. The good news about that is that now that we know what we are dealing with, once he finishes urinating, I can just press on his abdomen gently and his bladder will easily express completely, making him more comfortable and also eliminating the overflow. This only has to be done a couple of times a day, not every time he urinates unless you so wanted to.
There's more: He has multiple fractures to his pelvis. It has healed on it's own and so that is why he has a funny gait - his pelvis is crooked. There's not much that can be done about it unless you wanted to rebreak and set it, but my vet did not recommend that since Linx is not painful at all and has already learned to compensate. He runs, jumps, and plays and has no pain. The only thing is that this may make him more prone to arthritis as he ages. His hips look great, actually. They are deep in the sockets and nice and round, as they should be.
So there you have it. I think the most important thing to remember is that he is a happy, playful, fun loving dog. He has adjusted to his imperfections and has learned to live with them. He still has so much to offer and will still make a wonderful companion.
