About Kyah

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog

3/1/13 Kyah is an owner surrender. Her owner's bought her as a puppy from a breeder, and then once the new wore off, she was no longer fun to them so they placed her in a tiny, muddy little dog pen, away from their house and family, and that is where she has lived ever since. Until now. Her owner's decided that even that was too much trouble for them, so they were going to have her put to sleep, so they wouldn't have to be inconvenienced any more by feeding her. :'( Kyah's name was Remi, and she does respond to it, but we thought that with her new life she should have a new name - out with the old, in with the new! SO she is now Kyah and she is learning that name quickly. Kyah is amazingly smart - she learns new concepts very quickly. When she came here, she had never been in a crate before and she was scared of it. She learned within one day that the crate is a safe and good place, and she goes in it willingly now, with a treat given each time. When Kyah came here, she was a little shy, but after a few days of getting some attention, she has truly blossomed into a very loving and fun girl! She loves to run and play, and she enjoys our fenced yard very much. She gets along great with the other foster dogs here and has shown no aggression, except protection of her crate, which is normal. When she is in her crate and other dogs walk up to it, she barks at them, but I think that's just due to her time living in a too small kennel. Once she is out of her crate, the barking stops and she is fine. She loves Wally, a catahoula that I am fostering. They are best friends and they play hard together! They also sleep in crates next to eachother, and since Kyah has learned to trust Wally, she doesn't mind him being so close to "her" space. Kyah has a lot of love to offer a new family. She would be great with kids - she is gentle. But she would be fine without kids in the home as well. Kyah is totally crate trained - she has never had a single accident in her crate. I don't know if she is housetrained, as she has not been inside other than when in her crate. But I believe she would easily pick up on housetraining, just as she did crate training. We believe Kyan is about 18 months - 2 years old. She weighs about 40lbs. I've had Kyah spayed, brought up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, tested for heartworms (she was negative - yay!), and checked out by my vet. She is healthy and happy and is ready to start her new life with her forever family. Kyah is located in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted.
