PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.
4.15.13 This gorgeous guy is Sully. He is an owner surrender to a high kill shelter. He got into a fight with another dog and his owner's gave up on him. We do not know the circumstances surrounding the dog fight, but we have to take the owner's word that he is not good with other dogs. This boy must be an only dog - no exceptions. He also will not be a candidate for going to dog parks, or other doggie social events. However, he is great with people and still has the potential to be a good family pet. He is a total wiggle butt and is wonderful, he just needs to be the only dog. When we got Sully from the shelter, it became apparent that he has not been well cared for. He is very malnourished. I can see his hip bones jutting out from across my yard. This was not from being starved at the shelter - he was only there for a couple of days. This did not happen in that time frame - he has gone hungry for a long time to be this thin. I don't know if the fight he was in was food related, but if it was, I can certainly see why he would be fighting. This boy can't afford to miss another meal and it may take us some time to put some weight on him. We had him neutered and tested for heartworms which was negative. We've also had him vaccinated and dewormed. He has been very depressed in the shelter and was slated for euthanasia but his guardian angel stepped in and networked him, and that is how we found out about him, and brought him into rescue. Despite his issues w/ other dogs, we feel that he is worth saving. Sully is located in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted. For more info, email kelley.aasr@gmail.com UPDATE! Sully has not shown any dog aggression here. He is food and crate possessive and will grumble if another dog goes near his crate or his food, but otherwise he has not shown any aggression. I would not be comfortable placing him in a home with another dominant dog, as I do believe he would defend himself if challenged, but he should be fine in a home with a submissive female. He gets along very well with Dallas, a 9 month old Shepherd mix who adores Sully and pesters him endlessly. Sully does not play with Dallas but rather he just ignores him all togehter. He is not a dog who will seek out Canine companionship, but he seems to be tolerant of other dogs as long as they do not challenge him. His weight is normal now as well. We have him on Iams Lamb and Rice formula and on this food, he does very well. He is ready for a home of his own!
