About Luna

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes

8/11/13 Luna had been adopted but due to her seperation anxiety, her adopter feels that she would do best in a home with another dog. She is a wonderful little girl, but really needs another dog and someone who is home most of the time, and her current adopter cannot provide that for her. Luna is located in MA, with her adopter, where she will remain until she is rehomed. We hope this time it will be her forever home! Here is what Luna's adopter says about her:

Luna is a sweet, timid little girl. She has a lot of fear and can be skittish of fast movements and loud noises. She LOVES to RUN in open areas like a long beach or a big grassy back yard or a long dog park. Her recall is pretty decent for a small dog - as long as she trusts the person who is calling her. If something 'scary' is between the person calling her and herself, she will wait until the scary thing goes away and then she will come.
She is good on a leash, not a puller. She does need reassurance at times when walking past certain people or trash cans or large objects. She is very wary of men. She is more trusting of women and will go with almost no hesitation to a child. She is easy to train in a quiet setting and enjoys trying to please you. She is more praise driven than food driven - she can be a bit picky with her food. She responds well to positive reinforcement like a pat or a 'gooood girl'. She really does want to be a good dog and wants to please you. Because she is so tone sensitive a stern 'no' is all that is needed with her to address and unwanted behavior such as jumping on the furniture or begging at the dinner table.
She is quiet, barking only during play times with other dogs at the dog park. She is MUCH more confident with other dogs around. She would do very well in a household with another dog.
She suffers from extreme anxiety when left totally alone. She will whine and whimper and work herself into a very sad howl. She will panic and hurt herself if left alone out of her crate. However, if left alone with another dog her anxiety is diminished greatly and only whines for a moment then relaxes. She is crate trained and is starting to go into her crate unprompted for naps or if she feels unsure. She is house broken, however she has not learned to 'ask' to go out yet so it is important to keep her on a regular schedule until she learns how to inform you that she 'has to go'
The good things about this little girl:
She is really very sweet. She enjoys attention such as tummy rubs and snuggle time. She travels well and enjoys being your co-pilot. She is small, only 12.1 lbs, so she is easy to scoop up if needed for her safety. She really does like children. She gets along with dogs of all sizes and cats. She is not a huge wanderer, she will stay with you in a yard or on a back porch and relax with you. Besides her separation anxiety, she is very quiet.
What Luna really needs:
Patience, kindness and a reliable schedule. She needs to be able to trust in a human. She needs to build self confidence. She needs a quiet home, despite her 'city size' she is country mouse. We cannot stress enough how much happier and well-balanced she is with another dog around.
